Evaluation: record how a perfume material changes over time

Smell a material on a strip, record strength and liking at set times, and keep your own library of evaluations.

Inzenzo's perfume ingredient evaluation tool

Evaluation is a guided way to smell one perfume material on a strip and record what you notice at set times, from right away to hours or days later. Inzenzo times each sniff, keeps your notes and turns them into a curve. You need a free account, and your evaluations are private unless you share them.

How an evaluation works

Four steps: prepare the strip, sniff and rate, choose the next check, repeat until the smell is gone.
The evaluation loop.
  1. Start from an ingredient page with Evaluate this ingredient, or from the Evaluate page.
  2. Record how you prepared the material: the dilution and the solvent, ethanol by default.
  3. Smell the strip and answer the questions: how strong it is and how much you like it, each out of 5, and which odor descriptors fit.
  4. Choose when you will check again. Suggested times are 5, 15, 30 minutes, 1, 2, 4, 8 hours and 24 hours, and you can wait up to 7 days.
  5. Come back at that time and sniff again. When the smell is gone or has lost its character, mark it and the evaluation ends.

Why the time stamps matter

Each sniff is stored with a server time stamp, so the gap between sniffs is the real one. That makes the record honest: you can compare how long two materials last on a strip, or how one material behaves at two dilutions.

Keep a library of what you have smelled

Every material you evaluate goes into your own library. You can search it, filter by olfactive family, sort by recent, A to Z or most evaluated, and export it all to CSV.

Share or keep private

An evaluation stays private until you choose to share it. Shared evaluations appear on the ingredient page for other members to read, and you can unshare them later. Answers are plain text, so links are not allowed.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I wait between sniffs?

Start with the suggested times: 5 minutes, then longer gaps as the smell fades. Choose what suits the material. Some are gone in an hour, others last days.

Can I evaluate the same material again?

Yes. Use Evaluate again in your library to compare another dilution, supplier or batch.
